Test on Your Novel: Review/re-read all the activities you did on your novel.  The questions will come from the assignments you did on your novel.

Final Thoughts: Write at least a page on your personal thoughts.  What has been your experience with the story, author, activities, about the assignments, and the characters--are there any triats you share with the character(s)?  Did the assignments help you in understanding social studies concepts?

Deadlines Extended for All

All novel reading assignments that would have been due tomorrow (the 13th) have been postponed until October 15 (Thursday) including the novel test for 6th grade.

Review for the test on the 6th grade novels (ACC, LFR, and BOTPC): Go over all the assignments you did from your reading chart and from your graded assignments.  The test for each novel will be pulled from the work you were assigned. 

Homework and Misspelled Words (6th); Three Religions (7th)

Sixth Grade:  Pages 8 and 9 of the Reading Study Guide workbook.  Please write complete sentences when answering the questions on page 9.  Points will be deducted for incomplete sentences.

For anyone who still has a blank space or a zero for the "Frequently Misspelled Social Studies Words" assignments, examine your "Geographer's Tools" asssignments and re-write those misspelled words five times each.  Also, if you have a habit of misspelling the words below, please write those words five times each.  How will you know?  Look inside your novel packet where you complete the novel assignments for me.  Rewrite those words where I have placed "sp" beside them or words that I have taken points off for misspelling.  Due tomorrow.

Progress Report Sent Home; C-Span Video Competition

LITERACY RATES/STANDARD OF LIVING CHART:

Deadline is extended until Thursday for both grade levels.

Progress Reports: Progress reports have been given to all students who were present in school today.  Grading is still in progress.  The blank spaces on the progress reports will be transformed to a grade or a zero. 

Parents, if your child is making below an 80, please sign the progress report and return it to me by Wednesday of this week.  Additionally, I would like for us to meet to explore ways to assist the student in overcoming the hurdle(s) preventing him/her from making the grade I know he/she is capable of earning.

C-SPAN Student Competition: C-Span is encouraging students to enter the competition to create a documentary.  Please go to this link for more information: http://www.studentcam.org/   

Due tomorrow: Sixth Grade and Seventh Grades: Novel Studies: Government.  Respond to these questions in a ONE PARAGRAPH (or more) paper. Identify the type of government by name that exists in the location the events are happening.  For example, if it is stated that a citizen is a member of parliament or congress, we can rightly conclude that citizens participate in their own governance.  Please elaborate on what this means.  If it is stated that the government does not provide necessary programs for the citizens and does not encourage people to ask questions or be involved in leadership, then we can conclude that the government is not involved in the lives of its people.  Please provide details.

Literacy Rates and Standard of Living (All); Historical Events: 7th Grade

Seventh Grade: Give ten important historical events that happened in the novel: Sunrise Over Fallujah. Since the events are correct, but the characters are fictitious, this is a historical fiction.  Therefore, report only those historically significant events that impacted the American and/or Iraqi people/ government. 

Sixth and Seventh Grades:  The high demand for lap tops is making it difficult for us to complete this assignment.  Therefore, either obtain the chart from me or download one form my blog and complete the rest of the assignment on your own, now that you know how to locate all the required information.  Ignore the culture and environment columns.  Those are assignments for later dates.  I combined the tasks/activities due to paper shortage.

Warm Up Discussion on Expectations; Test on Natural Resources Tomorrow

All: 1.  Discussed expectations on daily warm ups in order to improve performance since warm ups count as 20 percent of the grade

Travel with the three ghosts and Scrooge to chart IMPORTANT events in his (Scrooge’s) life that made him the unsociable man he turned into.  Events: 1. Ghost of Christmas Past takes Scrooge to his village: Scrooge was a happy boy among his friends.  2.  Scrooge was sent away from home by his father to a boarding room where he was visited by characters from the books he loved to read.  3.  His sister, Fan, came to take him home from the boarding school…

Seventh Grade: History (Sunrise Over Fallujah): What historical events can you piece together from the story as actual events that are part of the history of United States and of Iraq ?  What incidents led to the war as reported in the novel? Arrange them using a time line, a sequence chart, or in paragraphs  organized sequentially: first, second, third, etc.
