Aboriginal Music, 5th Period; Rain Forest Activity, 2nd Period

Aboriginal Music, 5th Period: Finalize the last part of the Aboriginal/Australian cultural organizer with information from the attached link.  Place your organizer in the bin before the end of your class period tomorrow.   Download Indigenous Australians and culture--Music and Beliefs

Sixth and Seventh Grades: All oustanding assignments are due this week.  I have been lax with enforcing the due dates because of CRCT pressures.  All outstanding assignments are due by this Thursday, 4/30/09.  Place them in the bin, and I will collect them by the end of day on Thursday.

Cultural Celebrations: 5th Period = May 5th in honor of Cinco de Mayo

 

CRCT IS OVER! PREPARING FOR END-OF-YEAR EXAM!

SIXTH AND SEVENTH GRADES: We will begin activities in preparation for the end-of-year exam.  Although the CRCT is over, the school year is not over.  We are still working on curriculum concepts, skills, and activities in fulfillment of the requirements for your grade-level report card.

If the grade on your progress report is unsatisfactory, this is the time to buckle up and push yourself toward passing your current grade level--meaining that you need to strive to maintain a grade of 80 or higher.

Australia's Cuture (6th); Africa's Religion/Ethnic Groups and Progress Reports

Parents: Progress reports were sent home today with every student who was in school today.

Students: Visit yesterday's blog entry to try your hands on the maps of the various regions we have studied this year.

Sixth Grade: The character web of Emiliano Zapata and Australia's culture are due on Monday.  You should have completed the character web by Friday.  You will have time in class to finalize the culture of the Aborigines.

Seventh Grade: Africa's ethnic and and religious groups chart is due on Monday.  Also, all the oustanding assignments are due on Monday as well: Europe's impact on the world pie chart, Confucianism inverted pyramid, and rebuilding Japan technology product.  We have been working on these assignments for days now.  There are no extensions after Monday because we will be moving on to other concepts and assignments.

Social Studies CRCT: Goodluck on Monday, 4/27/09!

Both Grade Levels: End of South/East Asia unit test (7th) and Latin America test (6th) on May 8th, 2009

Sixth Grade: Test on Australia (6th) during the following week, May 15, 2009

Both Grades Levels: End-of-Year Final Exam on all concepts and topics covered this year: May 19th, 2009  

In between the testing dates, we will engage in trading under traditional, command, and market economies for Africa and Latin America.  We will try to squeeze in another trading episode for Asia (south and east) and Australia before the academic year ends.

Additionally, we will celebrate the cultures of South and East Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Australia if time and resources allow.  Alternatively, we will vote for the cultures we will celebrate.

AUSTRALIA (6TH): Locate on a world and regional political-physical map: the Great Barrier Reef, Coral Sea, Ayers Rock, Great Victoria Desert, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, South Pacific Ocean, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia groups.

 

MIDDLE EAST (7TH): Euphrates River, Jordan River, Tigris River, Suez Canal, Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, Arabian Sea, Red Sea, Gaza Strip, Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Kuwait, Arabian Peninsula, Sinai Peninsula, and Gallipoli Peninsula.

European Impact and Exploration (7th); Goodluck on the CRCT!

Seventh Grade (2nd Period): Finalize the impact of European exploration on the world by answering the question: What share (in percent on the attached pie chart) would you assign to each of the eight European countries that colonized the world?  Make sure your pie chart allotments add up to 100%.  Color each European nation's piece a different shade.

Seventh Grade (1st and 2nd): These assignments need to be turned in by Friday of this week:

1.     World War II and the Rebuilding of Japan

2.  Confucianism: Use the inverted pyramid (as you were shown in class) to summarize information on the religion of Confucianism.  Provide answers to these five W's and H: Who? What? Where? When? Why? and How?   You will have class time to work on Confucianism tomorrow.

SEVENTH GRADE: WORK ON REBUILDING JAPAN TONIGHT DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH YOU HAVE DONE IN THE PAST.  THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL WEDNESDAY.  YOU WILL HAVE CLASSTIME TO FINISH IT UP.  THAT MEANS THAT YOU HAVE BEEN WORKING ON IT THESE LAST TWO WEEKS.

Important Due Dates:

Seventh Grade Homework: Third column product of the 3-column chart -- due 4/20: Consult your 3-column chart handout for instructions.  Suggestion: If you have not completed an assignment from the third column yet, select the activity about India and Pakistan and turn in that one instead of doing anything else.

Rebuilding Japan choice of product--due 4/21: Read the instructions thoroughly.  If you do not have Powerpoint, Photostory, or iMovie software, you can download the free copy from the link given here or create an extraordinary activity that should be of the same professionalism/creativity/depth as a technology product.  www.openoffice.org

ALL GRADES: CRCT begins on Tuesday, 4/21--Get a good night sleep, eat a HEALTHY breakfast, bring a novel to read after you are finished, and bring several #2 pencils with erasers.

 

SIXTH GRADE HOMEWORK: Finalize the "Economic Data Summary Chart" with information from the the CIA website on the countries you and your group members selected.  Essentially, you are answering the question: What factors (economic) determine whether a country is developed, developing, or underdeveloped?

Sixth Grade (5th Period): Finalize the rest of the information on the culture and the development of Australia before and after contact with European countries that we started in class today.  Also, identify and label the places listed on your "Pre-Test" strip on the map of Australia.
