We will continue our look at the Constitution Monday. 

AC class will complete the chart of the 3 branchesDownload Branches of govt chart pdf and create Frayer diagrams for the following terms:

2. separation of powers
3. checks and balances
4. federalism
5. republic

1st, 2nd, & and 3rd hour classes will review the guided reading and complete  the Frayer diagrams.

Week of October 25th-Wrapping Up the Revolution and Beginning Our Look At Government

I am very pleased with students' performance on the Revolutionary War test (Chapter 5)!  There were many A's in all classes and several students earned perfect scores!  There was a strong correlation between classwork and homework completion and outstanding performance on this assessment.  If you are one of the few students who may not be pleased with your grade or if you were absent on Thursday or Friday, please be sure to come in to complete the test or retake it by Friday of this week.

We will begin our look at the foundations of our government this week (pages 174 - 175 and 499 - 509 in the text) with an examination of the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation.

Class Activities Planned For The Week:

Monday: Pretest; read pages 174 - 175 and answer questions on page 175. Finish the questions for homework.

Tuesday: We will watch a video about the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation.  Students will complete questions related to the video. Complete the October Calendar for homework.

Wednesday:  Students will read pages 499 - 509 and complete questions to outline essential information Download The United States Constitution Questions goes with Arts.

Thursday:  Students in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd hour classes will begin work on a flip book to review the three branches of government; students in 4th hour (AC) will read portions of the Constitution and complete a matrix of facts about the Constitution.

Friday: 1st, 2nd, 3rd hour classes will complete the flip book; 4th hour students will complete a chart of checks and balances and create a visual metaphor for checks and balances or separation of powers.

AC (4th Hour) Activities for Week of October 18th CHAPTER 5 TEST THURSDAY

Monday: 1. Turn in learning journals. 2. Groups will present information about the American Revolution; students will complete graphic organizer. 3. Homework: Frayer diagrams for popular sovereignty and separation of powers.

Tuesday: 1. Students will examine the strengths and weaknesses of Georgia’s first state constitution (1777) 2. Students will receive a study guide for chapter 5 test. 3. Homwork: Complete October calendar.

Wednesday: 1. Students will analyze excerpts from the Declaration of Independence. 2. Homework: Correct chapter 5 anticipation guide and study for chapter 5 test..

Thursday: 1. Chapter 5 test. 2. Social Studies book revieew due Friday.

Friday: 1. Turn in book review. 2. Weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation

Week of October 11th

All students will complete the first benchmark test in class tomorrow. Review the vocabulary from the calendars  Download October Calendar pdf   Download September Calendarpdf to prepare.  If you are really ambitious, finish reading chapter 5.  Don't stress over the test!  

AC students should bring their completed articles, propaganda pieces, and/or comic strips for the colonial newspaper project to class tomorrow.

Activities For the Week: 

1st, 2nd, & 3rd Hour Classes:

Monday:  Read pages 149 - 152 and create Frayer diagrams for Provincial Congress and Liberty Boys.

Tuesday:  Notes on Georgia and the Revolution  Download Revolution Summary  Students will also complete a graphic organizer of the acts and taxes that lead to the Revolution.  Homework:  Read pages 153 - 157

Wednesday:  Finish notes on Georgia and the Revolution.  Students will create "sensory figures" for the 3 Georgians who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Thursday:  We will work on a study guide to summarize the chapter.  Homework:  Complete the right side of the chapter 5 anticipation guide. Download CHAPTER 5 ANTICIPATION GUIDE

Friday:  Review study guide and anticipation guide. Homework:  Create an index card of review information.  Chapter 5 test Monday!

4th Hour:

Monday:  Assemble colonial newspapers Download COLONIAL NEWSPAPER PROJECT after the benchmark test.  Remember you may email them to oreilly.ka@gmail.com by 9:00 pm tonight if you do not have access to a printer.  Students will receive a Learning Journal Monday.  Completed journals will be turned in Friday.

Tuesday:  Students will conduct a "gallery walk"  examining the completed colonial newspapers and work on journals.

Wednesday and Thursday:  Students will "jigsaw" pages 143 - 165 in the text and become experts on the events leading to the Revolution and Georgia's role. Homework: Complete right side of chapter 5 anticipation guide. Download CHAPTER 5 ANTICIPATION GUIDE

Friday:  Study guide.  Homework: Study for chapter 5 test.
